Communication can be either unencrypted or encrypted (using SSL or STARTTLS).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">As its name suggests, the SMTP protocol was initially created to ensure simple email transfer, which is why it didn\u2019t natively benefit from the protections needed to cope with the hacking and phishing attempts that are so common these days. It was therefore necessary to supplement this protocol with additional security bricks to cope with today\u2019s threats.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">For example, trusted additional protocols have been added in order to certify the sender address ownership, including SPF, DKIM and DMARC, which are widely used in email marketing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Because of security challenges and increasingly complex existing threats, the emailing industry is now considering what additional building blocks has yet to be developed around SMTP, while other email players believe that SMTP is too old, and that the protocol should either be completely rewritten, or a successor found in the years to come.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">In addition, email verifier use SMTP protocol commands to perform a key step in order to find the email address status.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SMTP stands for \u201cSimple Mail Transfer Protocol\u201d. &nbsp; Created in 1982, SMTP is an email transfer protocol used for sending Emails.
