How does email address search work?

Depending on the mode selected (specific person or generic contacts), the email finder will connect to the target SMTP server for the requested domain and test different combinations of email addresses that are most likely to match the email address being searched for. As soon as a positive combination is found, the associated email is displayed on the screen. Of course, as with email verification, these tests never actually send any emails and are therefore fully GDPR compliant.

How reliable is the email finder?

When talking about reliability, we need to consider the two levels of “risk” associated with searching for an email address: the risk of having an invalid email address (resulting in a hard bounce if you write to it), and the risk of obtaining an email address that does not correspond to the specific contact requested.

How can I obtain a contact email address when I do not know anyone specific within a company?

If you do not have a person’s first and last name, you should use the “generic contacts” search tab, which allows you to search for a generic email address as a point of entry into the company (such as contact@domain, info@domain, support@domain, etc.).
Even if they do not identify a specific person, these emails are very useful for initial contact: if the email sent is relevant, the people in charge of this email account will generally forward the email to the internal staff members concerned by the request received.

Why do I sometimes not find an email address even though the person works for the company indicated?

There are many reasons why the email search function may fail, even if the person requested works in the internet domain indicated. Most of the time, this is due to specific protections on that domain that prevent the contact’s email address from being detected correctly.

Can we enter the company name directly instead of the full internet domain?

This advanced feature is only available in the customer interface after creating a Mailnjoy user account. In the free version of the email finder, you must enter the company’s FQDN, otherwise the search will not be launched.

Is searching for contact emails compliant with the GDPR?

Yes, of course. The email finder allows you to find professional email addresses, which can be used for business-to-business marketing, in accordance with the specific provisions of the GDPR.
Please note, however, that there are specific GDPR rules regarding the sending of emails (e.g., what types of email content are permitted, etc.), and this overall issue must be considered by everyone before sending emails, as it goes beyond simply searching for a contact’s email address by using the email finder.
